Altura declares commercial production at namesake lithium mine

Altura Mining Ltd. achieved commercial production at its namesake lithium mine at Pilgangoora in Western Australia's Pilbara region after completing the commissioning of stage-one operations, the miner said March 13.

Stage-one of the Altura operation, which opened in September 2018, has a nameplate capacity of 220,000 tonnes per year of spodumene concentrate, equating to a production rate of 645 tonnes per day. The lithium producer said production in recent weeks delivered an average of 541 tonnes per day, representing 84% of the nameplate capacity.

The miner inked an off-take agreement in November 2018 to supply at least 70,000 dry tonnes per year to Ganfeng Lithium Co. Ltd. unit GFL International Co. Ltd. until 2021. The first shipment of spodumene concentrate produced at Altura departed Port Hedland in October 2018.
