Huawei's Europe meeting; Teamviewer IPO price; Vivendi-Mediaset legal battle

TOP NEWS

* Europe's major telcos and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. are meeting in Spain this week to discuss 5G use cases and network development, as the industry awaits the European Union's risk assessment of the Chinese firm. Executives from Vodafone Group PLC, British Telecom, Telefónica SA, and Huawei will take to the stage at the 5G Core Summit in Madrid on Sept. 24-25.

* Teamviewer AG is expected to price its IPO in the upper half of the projected range, Reuters reports, quoting one of the book runners for the German software company's public listing. The earlier pricing guidance was €25.50 to €26.50 per share.

* Mediaset SpA confirmed that Vivendi SA has brought court proceedings in Spain and the Netherlands against the Italian company's plans to create a pan-European media group. The French media group, which had until Sept. 21 to sell its 29% stake in Mediaset, decided to hold on to its stake in the Italian broadcaster, Reuters reported.

UK AND IRELAND

* "Chernobyl," which HBO (US) co-produced with Sky Ltd. landed 10 awards at the 71st Emmy Awards. Five shows from the British broadcaster also received nine awards at the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards. AT&T Inc. owns HBO, while Comcast Corp. owns Sky.

* Private equity firm Xenon Partners completed the acquisition of MetricFire, an Ireland-based provider of open-source cloud data monitoring solutions, for an undisclosed sum. Metricfire will join Xenon Partners' portfolio of software-focused technology companies.

* British regulator Ofcom launched investigations on China Central Television's international broadcasting arm CGTN over potential breach of U.K.'s standards, while covering the Hong Kong protests, London's The Guardian reports. CGTN is said to be preparing to launch its London operations and is hiring staff.

* Heidi Dawson, managing editor of the British Broadcasting Corp.'s BBC Radio 5 live, has been appointed controller of BBC Radio 5 live and 5 live sports extra. Dawson is replacing Jonathan Wall.

* British Telecom terminated its American depositary receipt program. The company has not arranged for the listing or registration of its American depositary shares on another U.S. national securities exchange or for its quotation in a quotation medium in the country.

GERMANY, SWITZERLAND AND AUSTRIA

* ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE secured the licensing rights for British crime series "Gold," reports Quotenmeter. The series will broadcast via Sat.1 Gold (DE) with new episodes.

* ProSiebenSat production unit Redseven Entertainment opened a new office in Berlin to expand its production capabilities. The new Berlin office will be the third location for the company.

* The Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications confirmed that bidders in the second auction for 5G licenses will have to commit to launching faster speeds in rural areas. The Austrian regulator wants to ensure that smaller communities are receiving the same speed upgrades as larger ones.

* T-Labs, Deutsche Telekom AGs research and innovation unit, launched the first professorship for software engineering with a specialization in blockchain at CODE University of Applied Sciences. The professorship is part of the cooperation that T-Labs and CODE announced earlier in 2019.

* German media company BurdaForward promoted Cherno Jobatey as editor-at-large of German news site Focus Online. Jobatey will be overseeing a new format called "Talking Good," to be launched in October.

FRANCE

* Eutelsat Communications SA told the U.S. Federal Communications Commission that it might consider rejoining the C-Band Alliance, Advanced Television reports, citing the satellite company's filing.

* Eutelsat is also entering the internet of things market with the order for the first four of 25 nano-satellites to be launched by 2023, Le Figaro reports. The manufacturing has been entrusted to startups Loft Orbital Solutions Inc. and Clyde Space Ltd.

* Iliad's Xavier Niel and Lazard Ltd.'s Matthieu Pigasse are considering forming a foundation structure for Le Monde, Le Figaro reports. Niel put forward the idea of transforming the holding company that controls Le Monde Libre into a foundation to safeguard the independence of the press group.

* Lyon-based publisher Wizaplace completed a €13 million round of financing, La Tribune reports. The company will use the funds to continue its development in France and several markets in Europe.

NETHERLANDS, BELGIUM and LUXEMBOURG

* Exiting Proximus CEO Dominique Leroy was in discussions with Dutch operator KPN NV about a possible new job when she sold Proximus shares, according to Telecompaper, citing NRC Handelsblad. Belgian authorities began an investigation into Leroy's potential insider trading.

* Belgian telecom provider Telenet increased the speed of most of its internet subscriptions, Tweakers reports. In addition, its Internet Fiber 100 and 200 formulas are merging into a new subscription called All-Internet.

NORDIC COUNTRIES

* Nokia Corp. joined other companies in speeding up efforts to reduce carbon emissions in a bid to keep global warming below the 1.5 degrees C-limit as per the Paris Agreement on climate change. The company pushed for the adoption of 5G as a "natively green" next-generation mobile connectivity solution, arguing that it is more energy efficient than 4G.

* Everysport Media Group AB said it secured a three-year digital platforms deal with professional ice hockey league HockeyAllsvenskan. Everysport Media will develop HockeyAllsvenskan's commercial packaging for the latter's platforms and digital sites across Sweden.

* Telia Co. AB repurchased 1,898,944 own shares during the period of Sept. 16 to Sept. 20. The repurchase forms part of Telia's 5 billion Swedish kronor share buyback program, which is due to run until Feb. 28, 2020.

* Charlotte Svensson is set to leave PostNord Group AB on Oct. 31, according to a news release. Svensson served as the acting head of PostNord's digital products, channels and development group, as well as a member of PostNord's management team since 2017.

SOUTHERN EUROPE

* Spanish broadcaster Mediapro and Orange Espagne SAU will jointly produce a horror movie, with filming on the production to begin in the fall, Broadband TV News reports. The companies' first co-production is about the disappearance of a group of young hikers while on the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

* Italy public broadcaster Rai is adding more content to its 4K channel, which is available on the TivùSat platform, Broadband TV News reports. The new content includes a number of specials and two productions for the "Meraviglie" series.

* Vodafone Italia SpA will work with Modern Times Group Mtg AB-owned esports company ESL to transmit the grand final of their joint mobile gaming tournament on Sept. 28-29 via Vodafone's 5G network, Telecompaper reports.

* Italian regional operator GO internet SpA secured a €3 million loan to fund the upgrade of its network in the country's central Marche region, Telecompaper reports, citing a statement. The project entails preparing the network for migrating to 5G-ready technology.

* South Korea's KT Corp. is teaming up with Portugal-based WeDo Technologies BV to develop and promote an artificial intelligence-based fraud management system, Telecompaper reports.

* A Rome court will hold an initial hearing Oct. 8 on an appeal by Vivendi unit Dailymotion SA against a €5.5 million payment for the illegal use of copyrighted video content from Mediaset unit Reti Televisive Italiane SpA.

* Spain will roll out a €145 million aid package to help consumers readjust their antennas to access digital terrestrial TV services on Sept. 26, Advanced Television reports. The readjustment is part of the country's second digital migration.

EASTERN EUROPE

* Cyfrowy Polsat SA and Telewizja Polsat Sp. zoo started testing the delivery of hybrid broadcast broadband television services via digital terrestrial TV, Broadband TV News reports. The tests involve the transmission of the Polsat News channel in four new locations across Poland.

* Hrvatski Telekom demonstrated the transmission of video drone footage over a 5G network in Croatia's Adria region, Broadband TV News reports. Remote reality-focused technology developer Orca operated the drone used in the demo.

* Vodafone Romania SA named Marius Corcoman finance director and executive team member, effective December, Broadband TV News reports. Corcoman will replace Sibaji Biswasb, who is leaving Vodafone when his term ends in October.
