The Competition Commission of India's February ruling that found Alphabet Inc.'s unit Google Inc. guilty of search bias may cause "irreparable harm" to the search engine giant, Google reportedly said in a plea, according to a May 18 Reuters report.
According to the legal document, Google reportedly said that the ruling could also lead to reputational damage as it will "require Google to change the way it conducts business in India on a lasting basis and the way it designs its search results page in India."
Google has filed an appeal to India's National Company Law Appellate Tribunal against the 1.36 billion rupee penalty from the CCI, on April 9.
The anti-trust body had issued the fine in February after concluding that Google had "abused its dominant position in online general web search" and "web search advertising services" in the country.
The order was in response to information flagged by matchmaking website Matrimony.com Ltd. and the Consumer Unity and Trust Society.
The appeal is set to be heard on May 28.
As of May 18, US$1 was equivalent to 68.01 Indian rupees.
