Japanese internet giant Rakuten Inc.'s vacation rental platform Rakuten Lifull Stay has agreed to partner with Dutch accommodation reservation website Booking.com.
Under the collaboration, Booking.com customers will be able to reserve vacation rental properties listed by Rakuten Lifull Stay, which is scheduled to launch after June 2018 under the tentative name of Vacation Stay.
The two companies also plan to team up on marketing campaigns aimed at tourists visiting Japan.
The agreement marks the entry into Japan's vacation rental market by Booking.com, which sees more than 1.5 million room nights reserved on its site each day from more than 1.5 million properties across over 120,000 destinations worldwide.
Rakuten has been working to expand its reach in the vacation rental market, most recently with the launch of the Rakuten Stay service that offers property owners branding and operation support.
It also previously formed partnerships for Rakuten Lifull Stay with other online platforms including Expedia Inc.'s HomeAway Inc., China's Tujia and Taiwan-based AsiaYo.
