Dominion Energy Inc.'s Cove Point LNG production facility is scheduled for maintenance during autumn of 2018 and will be shut down for a few weeks, Reuters reported, citing Dominion CEO Thomas Farrell.
LNG export interruption from the Maryland facility will depend on whether tanks with nearly 15 Bcf of storage capacity were exhausted, the report said, citing Farrell.
The Dominion CEO attended a ceremony in Japan to commemorate the arrival of a second LNG vessel from Cove Point at a Tokyo Gas terminal on June 6. The exports to Japan mark a shift as the U.S. boosts oil and gas exports from shale formations, the report said.
The Cove Point LNG facility has a nameplate annual capacity of 5.25 million tonnes and has has been at full production since April, Reuters reported, citing Farrell.
The project's capacity has been sold to GAIL (India) Ltd.'s U.S. affiliate and St Cove Point LLC, a joint venture between Sumitomo Corp. and Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd., under 20-year contracts.
Farrell said there are currently no plans to build additional trains at the Cove Point terminal due to lack of land. He added that while constructing similar LNG export projects is a future possibility, it is currently not in the company's plans to do so, the report said.
