Axiom secures mining, prospecting permits for Isabel nickel project

Axiom Mining Ltd. said June 4 that it secured approval for the mining lease of the 36-square-kilometer San Jorge nickel deposit, part of the Isabel project, from the Solomon Islands government's Ministry for Mines.

The miner also secured a letter of intent from the Minerals Board for a prospecting license application over the Tenement D deposit, which covers 145 square kilometers, and a letter of intent for a prospecting license for the Kolosori deposit that covers 36 square kilometers.

The letters of intent provide Axiom with exclusive rights to negotiate landowner access agreements in the areas.

In September 2017, the appointment of a new minister of mines and the exit of rival Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. lifted uncertainties surrounding Axiom's development of the Isabel project.
