Rakuten TV absorbs TalkTalk TV's off-net transactional customers

Rakuten Inc.'s Rakuten TV has acquired TalkTalk TV's off-net transactional base, which comprises customers that are not subscribed to TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC's TV and broadband packages.

The deal will allow Rakuten TV to reach more than 3 million users in the U.K. as part of its expansion plans.

The off-net transactional customers will be able to watch purchased content on Rakuten TV where available, and can buy new 4K content via compatible Smart TVs. Rakuten TV is offering recent films such as "Justice League," "The Disaster Artist" and "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle."

TalkTalk will contact affected customers via email, whereas its broadband and TV customers will be unaffected.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
