Report: Coca-Cola to close two UK sites, costing 288 jobs

Drinks bottler Coca-Cola Co.'s European arm Coca-Cola European Partners PLC will close a U.K. factory and distribution center, which will result in the loss of 288 jobs, the (U.K.) Independent reported March 28.

The company said the decision was made after a 55-day consultation period with employees and their representatives.

The closures at the manufacturing site in Milton Keynes and the distribution center in Northampton are planned for 2019.

A spokesperson for the company told the news outlet that "this is not a reflection on the performance or professionalism" of the employees at these sites, adding that 121 new roles will be created across the company's manufacturing and distribution network.

Coca-Cola has around 4,000 employees in the U.K. Production and warehousing operations at Milton Keynes and Northampton will be moved to other locations in the U.K., which include Sidcup, Edmonton, Wakefield, Morpeth and East Kilbride.
