Middlesex Water unit gets approval to acquire water systems in Delaware

The Delaware Public Service Commission approved Tidewater Utilities Inc.'s acquisition of Wilkerson Water Co. and Broadkiln Beach Water Co. from J.H. Wilkerson & Son Inc.

Wilkerson provides service through more than 500 customer connections through seven community water systems in Kent and Sussex counties of Delaware. Broadkiln provides service through over 500 customer connections in the Broadkiln Beach community bordering the Delaware Bay in Sussex County.

Both water systems will be served by Tidewater's regulated water utility business, which currently serves more than 47,000 accounts across the state. Tidewater also received approval from the PSC to maintain existing water rates for Wilkerson and Broadkiln customers.

The transaction is expected to close within 60 days.

Tidewater Utilities is a subsidiary of Middlesex Water Co.
