Hindustan Unilever Ltd., the Indian arm of Unilever NV, has teamed up with the local unit of Amazon.com Inc. to develop a line of grooming products for men under the Brylcreem brand, The Economic Times of India reported June 11.
Sandeep Kohli, executive director of personal care at Hindustan Unilever, said the move marks the company's debut in India's beard grooming segment, according to the report.
The new Brylcreem product range will be sold exclusively on Amazon, the report said.
Beard care reportedly is one of the fastest-growing categories in the country's male grooming market, which is valued at 86 billion Indian rupees, the report said.
In recent moves, Mumbai-based consumer products major Marico Ltd. acquired a 45% stake in Zed Lifestyle, owner of grooming brand Beardo, while Emami Ltd. invested in grooming products retailer The Man Company, according to the report.
As of June 11, US$1 is equivalent to 67.45 Indian rupees.
