BHP Group Ltd. increased its deepwater exploration drilling offshore Trinidad and Tobago, looking for gas that can supply the country's Atlantic LNG plant in 2020, Reuters reported March 13, citing comments from the company's vice president for exploration, Niall McCormack.
The company expects to complete drilling three wells in block 14 by the midyear, McCormack told Reuters on the sidelines of the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston.
The executive said the area is "attractive" due to its proximity to Atlantic LNG's infrastructure, and gas may be produced by the "middle of the next decade" when demand arises from Atlantic LNG.
