Petróleo Brasileiro SA said its Abreu e Lima refinery is operating normally after an oily waste spill was controlled in its industrial waste treatment plant.
The company, also known as Petrobras, estimated the leak to be 5 cubic meters and a "small amount of oil" reached a stream, according to an Aug. 27 news release.
Security and emergency teams were deployed to contain and repair the affected area. The cause of the spill is still under investigation.
The Abreu e Lima refinery is in the Suape Port Industrial Complex in Ipojuca, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. It is Petrobras' fifth-largest unit in refining capacity at 230,000 barrels per day and is focused on producing diesel fuel.
