Amazon.com Inc. said on Dec. 21 that it is leasing an additional 10 Boeing 767-300 aircraft from Air Transport Services Group Inc., or ATSG, to expand its growth and air cargo operations. With these 10 new cargo planes, the e-commerce giant is increasing its fleet to 50 aircraft.
In 2016, the e-retailer launched Amazon Air and leased 40 Boeing 767 freighter aircraft, half of them from ATSG. The new planes will join Amazon's current cargo operations over the next two years. An ATSG airline will operate the planes.
Amazon said it will open a new regional air hub next year at the Fort Worth Alliance Airport. Its air hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will open in 2021.
Amazon's delivery infrastructure features a 10,000-truck-trailer network and more than 185 fulfillment centers.
