Friday's Bank Stocks: Markets tick down ahead of holiday weekend

Bank stocks and the broader markets fell slightly in trading May 25, ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.24% to 24,753.09 and the S&P 500 decreased 0.24% to 2,721.33. The Nasdaq Composite Index added 0.13% to 7,433.85.

At the big four banks, JPMorgan Chase & Co. lost 0.51% to $110.66, Citigroup Inc. fell 1.26% to $68.44 and Bank of America Corp. decreased 0.17% to $30.16. Wells Fargo & Co. increased 0.42% to $54.90.

New York Community Bancorp Inc. declined 0.25% to $11.89.

In notable movers, Baltimore-based Howard Bancorp Inc. decreased 2.16% to $18.15 and Aurora, Ill.-based Old Second Bancorp Inc. declined 1.63% to $15.10.

Nashville, Tenn.-based CapStar Financial Holdings Inc. added 3.06% to $20.87 and Carmel, Ind.-based Merchants Bancorp increased 2.33% to $26.40.

New York-based Carver Bancorp Inc. continued to teeter in trading and added 4.34% to $6.73 at market close.
