Italy's unemployment rate increased to 11.1% in January 2018 from 10.9% in December 2017, but fell 0.6 of a percentage point from a year earlier, the country's National Institute of Statistics said.
The number of unemployed persons increased 2.3% from the previous month to 2.882 million. A total of 23.066 million persons were employed in January, up 0.1% from the prior month.
Employment rate edged up 0.1 percentage point to 58.1%, while the inactivity rate declined 0.2 percentage point to 34.5%.
The country is scheduled to hold elections March 4.
