EDF Renewables North America Distributed Solutions was selected to provide energy storage services to San Diego Zoo Global in California, according to an Oct. 17 company news release.
The project will utilize a 1-MW/4-MWh battery system to mitigate usage spikes and lower demand charges. The system will also recharge the battery when power is at its lowest rates and can then discharge the electricity when rates are highest.
Under a performance-based contract, EDF Renewables will only be paid based on the actual utility bill savings realized by San Diego Zoo Global.
EDF Renewables is a subsidiary of Electricité de France SA.
