Uniqlo Japan same-store sales slide 10% YOY in July

Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. reported a 10% decline in domestic same-store sales in July for its flagship apparel brand Uniqlo due to the unseasonal cool weather throughout the month, resulting in weaker demand for summer clothing.

Sales from the Japanese fast-fashion giant's directly run Uniqlo stores, including online sales, also fell 10.3% year over year in July. On a year-to-date basis, same-store-sales are up 0.5%, while online sales and sales from Uniqlo's own stores inched up 0.4%.

Customer numbers on a same-store basis during the month grew 5.6% year over year, while customer numbers at the company's own stores and online also climbed 5.5% year over year.

Average purchase per customer on a same-store basis was down 2.7% in July and 2% on a year-to-date basis. The company's own stores, including online sales, saw average customer purchase slide 2.8% during the month.

Fast Retailing opened one Uniqlo store in July and closed two.
