Report: SAIL expects to post record FY iron ore output

Steel Authority of India Ltd., or SAIL, is set to post record iron ore production upon closing the current fiscal year, with output of 19.2 million tonnes from its captive iron ore mines, Mining Weekly reported March 31, citing a company official.

The source said the increasing output is in line with the company's strategy of building up hot metal production, with the bulk of the increase attributable to its Taldih iron ore mine, which started operations during the year.

Taldih is expected to be fully mechanized over the next year, with production to be ramped up to 4.2 million tonnes per annum, the company official added.

Meanwhile, the report further noted that SAIL will also develop minor iron ore reserves as part of a project that aims to ensure a continuous supply of raw material to its key steel mills until major projects are completed.
