Waseda Academy Co. Ltd. said its normalized net income for the fiscal fourth quarter ended March 31 amounted to ¥19.31 per share, a gain of 21.5% from ¥15.89 per share in the prior-year period.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was ¥160.0 million, a gain of 22.5% from ¥130.6 million in the prior-year period.
The normalized profit margin increased to 3.1% from 2.7% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue climbed 5.7% on an annual basis to ¥5.09 billion from ¥4.82 billion, and total operating expenses increased year over year to ¥4.82 billion from ¥4.61 billion.
Reported net income increased from the prior-year period to ¥139.0 million, or ¥16.77 per share, from ¥30.0 million, or ¥3.65 per share.
For the year, the company's normalized net income totaled ¥57.26 per share, a gain of 7.9% from ¥53.07 per share in the prior year.
Normalized net income was ¥473.1 million, a gain of 8.8% from ¥435.0 million in the prior year.
Full-year total revenue grew year over year to ¥19.44 billion from ¥18.57 billion, and total operating expenses rose year over year to ¥18.69 billion from ¥17.88 billion.
The company said reported net income increased 44.3% on an annual basis to ¥420.0 million, or ¥50.83 per share, in the full year, from ¥291.0 million, or ¥35.50 per share.
