Bajaj Auto fiscal Q4 profit falls YOY

Bajaj Auto Ltd. said its normalized net income for the fiscal fourth quarter ended March 31 was 24.10 Indian rupees per share, a decrease of 16.9% from 29.01 rupees per share in the prior-year period.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was 6.97 billion rupees, a decline of 16.9% from 8.39 billion rupees in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin fell to 11.7% from 13.5% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue declined on an annual basis to 59.80 billion rupees from 62.15 billion rupees, and total operating expenses fell from the prior-year period to 39.96 billion rupees from 42.02 billion rupees.

Reported net income declined 13.4% year over year to 8.62 billion rupees, or 29.80 rupees per share, from 9.96 billion rupees, or 34.45 rupees per share.

For the year, the company's normalized net income totaled 119.21 rupees per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus normalized EPS estimate of 137.26 rupees.

EPS declined from 121.83 rupees in the prior year.

Normalized net income was 34.49 billion rupees, a decline from 35.25 billion rupees in the prior year.

Full-year total revenue declined on an annual basis to 228.49 billion rupees from 234.42 billion rupees, and total operating expenses decreased year over year to 175.83 billion rupees from 180.32 billion rupees.

The company said reported net income came to 40.79 billion rupees, or 140.98 rupees per share, in the full year, compared with 40.61 billion rupees, or 140.35 rupees per share, the prior year.

As of July 28, US$1 was equivalent to 64.12 Indian rupees.
