Fire halves output at Henan Shenhuo's aluminum smelter in China

Henan Shenhuo Coal & Power Co.Ltd. partially halted production at an aluminum smelter in Yongcheng, China due to a fire on May 26.

The company said May 27 that it suspended 250,000 tonnes of the plant's total capacity of 460,000 tonnes due to the fire, which destroyed three electrolytic tanks. An investigation is underway regarding the cause of the fire and related property losses.

Henan Shenhuo Coal & Power outlined plans last year to move 451,000 tonnes of annual smelting capacity to Yunnan as part of a 900,000-tonne-per-year integrated hydropower and aluminum smelting project in the province.
