Hecla's gold, silver, lead reserves at record high

Hecla Mining Co.'s posted its highest-ever levels of gold, silver and lead reserves and the highest zinc reserves in five years.

The company's gold reserves swelled 12% over 2016-end to 2.3 million ounces.

Silver reserves were up 3% to 177 Moz, and lead reserves increased 8% to 737,290 tons.

The company's zinc reserves jumped 15% to 840,870 tons, according to a Feb. 7 release.

Proven and probable reserves at the Greens Creek mine in Alaska increased 8% for gold and 7% for zinc, while reserves at the Lucky Friday mine in Idaho were up 10% for lead and 47% for zinc compared to reserves as of Dec. 31, 2016.

Gold reserves were up 14% at the Casa Berardi mine in Quebec and 17% at the San Sebastian mine in Mexico.

Hecla plans to spend between US$30 million and US$37 million on exploration in 2018, compared to US$23.5 million in 2017.
