VMware Inc. said its first-quarter normalized net income came to 43 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 84 cents per share.
EPS climbed 13.2% year over year from 38 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $185.0 million, an increase of 12.1% from $165.0 million in the prior-year period.
The normalized profit margin rose to 12.2% from 12.1% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue climbed 11.1% on an annual basis to $1.51 billion from $1.36 billion, and total operating expenses rose 10.8% year over year to $1.22 billion from $1.10 billion.
Reported net income decreased on an annual basis to $193.7 million, or 45 cents per share, from $200.0 million, or 46 cents per share.
