Ukraine's newly appointed president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, during his swearing-in ceremony, announced the dissolution of parliament and called a snap parliamentary election, Bloomberg Quint reported.
Zelenskiy's party, Servant of the People, has no presence in the parliament at the moment, and parliamentary elections were previously expected to take place in October.
The president, in his speech, urged lawmakers to sack the prosecutor-general and the defense minister, while sanctioning bills to fight corruption, part of his main agenda, Bloomberg Quint reported.
Zelenskiy, who acted as Ukrainian president in a popular comedy series, won against Petro Poroshenko last month. Ukraine's ruling coalition fell apart following the withdrawal of the People's Front party last week.
