FERC allows DTE Midstream to build most of Birdsboro pipeline

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved DTE Midstream Appalachia LLC to begin construction on almost all of a natural gas lateral project that will feed a Pennsylvania power plant.

The Birdsboro pipeline will run 14 miles through Berks County, Pa. The 12-inch-diameter pipeline will deliver up to 79,000 Dth/d of gas to the Birdsboro Power LLC power plant.

The FERC authorization allows the developer to begin construction on the entire route except for three drill sites. Commission staff approved limited construction activities on April 27. With the May 30 authorization, DTE Midstream can also begin building on a parcel of farm and ranch land after consulting with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service.

DTE Midstream, a subsidiary of DTE Energy Co., applied for the project on May 1, 2017. FERC authorized the pipeline in a certificate order on March 15. The developer was awarded an extension for tree-clearing activities in April. (FERC docket CP17-409)
