Texas homeowners sue Howard Hughes over Hurricane Harvey damage

Real estate developer Howard Hughes Corp., The Woodlands Land Development Co. and LJA Engineering are facing a lawsuit from Woodlands, Texas-based homeowners alleging that the companies negligently built a community on a known flood plain.

The class action, which was filed by Houston-based law firm Fibich Leebron Copeland & Briggs, claims that the defendants committed negligence and gross negligence and violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. The plaintiffs, homeowners in the Timarron Park subdivision, which was damaged during Hurricane Harvey, are seeking payment for home repairs, personal property replacement and pain, suffering and undue hardship.

A representative from Howard Hughes Corp. did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
