A pipe carrying gold and silver solution ruptured at Barrick Gold Corp.'s Veladero gold mine in Argentina, Reuters reported March 29.
The leak was reported to the mining ministry of San Juan province on March 28.
Barrick said the leak was contained and does not pose any threat to the environment.
"Occurrences of this nature are typical to this type of operation and do not cause damage to health, people or the environment," the miner said.
Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the incident.
"A detailed report will be made, explaining all the circumstances of the incident, its consequences and the measures that will be taken," the ministry said in a statement.
In September 2016, authorities suspended the Veladero operations for 19 days after Barrick reported a cyanide leak at the mine. Another cyanide spill was reported at the mine due to an equipment failure in 2015.
