American Water CEO to retire; successor named

American Water Works Co. Inc. on Dec. 10 announced that Susan Story will retire as president and CEO of the company in 2020, after a 38-year career in in the utility business.

Story will be succeeded by COO Walter Lynch, effective April 1, 2020, according to a company news release.

Lynch joined the company in 2001 and has served as American Water's COO since 2008. He previously served as president of New Jersey-American Water Co. Inc. and New York American Water Co.
