Old Dominion Electric Cooperative's two solar projects totaling 30 MW began construction in March and are set to be functional this summer.
Hecate Energy LLC in November 2015 won the contracts to deliver the electricity produced by the Northampton County and Clarke County, Va.-based projects, according to an April 4 release.
The 20-MW Cherrydale solar facility is on 185 acres in the A&N Electric Cooperative's service territory, and the 10-MW project is on 115 acres of land in the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative's service territory.
"Adding clean solar generation to our portfolio will allow us to keep fulfilling our mission of maintaining a diversified mix so that we can continue to provide affordable and reliable electricity to our member cooperatives," said Jack Reasor, Old Dominion Electric's president and CEO.
Both service territories are part of Old Dominion Electric's 11 member-owners.
