Sanofi will lay off about 200 employees in Japan, Reuters reported.
The development comes months after the French pharmaceutical company said 466 employees will be let go in France and Germany as part of a research and development rejig.
The Paris-based drugmaker — which has more than 100,000 employees globally, 15,000 of whom work in R&D — will implement a voluntary retirement program in Japan, Reuters said, quoting a company representative.
The layoffs in Japan will mainly affect employees across sales, regulatory affairs and operations, as well as IT and human resources.
Earlier in September, Sanofi notified the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corp. that it will be winding up its business from the country, putting more than 1,200 jobs at stake, FiercePharma reported.
Additionally, in December 2018, the company confirmed that it will cut 670 jobs from its workforce of 25,000 in France by the end of 2020.
