Former Goldman Sachs techie challenges his criminal conviction of stealing code

Sergey Aleynikov, a former computer programmer at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., filed a new challenge to his criminal conviction of unlawfully taking high-frequency trading code from the company, Reuters reported June 5.

Aleynikov, in the filing, said the rationale behind the New York State Court of Appeals upholding his conviction reflected that inaccurate directions had been relayed to the jury, and that his case violated the double-jeopardy law, according to the news outlet.

In an April 2017 order, the New York State Court of Appeals ruled that certain questions of law should be reviewed and that Aleynikov can appeal the ruling. Earlier, in January 2017, the New York Supreme Court's Appellate Division had reinstated the verdict of a jury from December 2010 that found Aleynikov guilty of stealing the trading code.
