Amazon shuttle drivers join labor union

About 40 commuter shuttle drivers for Amazon.com Inc. have opted to join the International Brotherhood of Teamsters labor union through a card-check agreement, according to a Dec. 12 release from Teamsters.

The workers, who are employed by contractor WeDriveU, are joining more than 1,000 tech commuter shuttle drivers for tech companies including Facebook Inc., Apple Inc. and Yahoo!, according to the release.

The union group said it plans to level the playing field for tech industry drivers so they can continue to increase their wages and benefits.

Teamsters said its Teamsters Local 853 unit already represents WeDriveU drivers at Salesforce.com, inc., LinkedIn Corp., Twitter Inc. and Facebook Inc.
