Hyundai Motor Co. said Jan. 4 total sales for December 2018 increased 0.4% year over year to 410,326 vehicles, compared with 408,637 units sold in the same month a year earlier.
The automaker's global sales in November dropped 4.2% year over year.
In its domestic market, the South Korean company sold 64,835 units during the month, up 21.5% from 53,361 units in December 2017.
Sales in overseas markets fell 2.8% to 345,491 units in December 2018, from 355,276 units in the same period in 2017.
The carmaker's total sales in 2018 grew 1.8% year over year to 4,586,775 from 4,506,275 units.
Meanwhile, total sales in December for Hyundai-backed Kia Motors Corp. came in at 241,119 vehicles sold globally, up 6.3% year over year, helped by a 10.3% year-over-year jump in overseas sales during the month to 198,999 units.
Kia's global sales in 2018 rose 2.4% year over year to 2,812,200 units. The company expects global sales for 2019 to reach 2.92 million units.
