Insurance moves: Axis Re names president for North America

Property and casualty

Chubb Ltd. named Juan Luis Ortega executive vice president for Chubb Group and president for overseas general insurance. He replaces Juan Andrade, who will be joining Everest Re in September.

Ortega serves as senior vice president for Chubb Group and regional president of Latin America. He will be replaced by Marcos Gunn in those roles.

Gunn serves as division president for Northern Latin America and COO of the Latin America region, which he will retain in an interim period until his successor is appointed.

Additionally, Chubb named Eric Kwan division head of property and casualty for Singapore, effective Aug. 5.

Kwan was head of property and casualty at a Singapore-based insurance company.

Nabil Hajjar was appointed chairman of the board and Hussain Matooq was named general manager of Bahrain-based Afro Asian Assistance, a subsidiary of Trust Re.

Hajjar works as a senior adviser to the management of Trust Re and managing director of the FAIR Oil & Energy Insurance syndicate. Matooq was head of operational services at Trust Re.

BGC Insurance Group appointed Mark Costin senior partner to its global aviation and space reinsurance brokerage firm.

Costin was CEO of the aviation and aerospace division at Marsh JLT Specialty.

BGC Insurance Group also added Oyin Heath to its stand-alone aviation startup, The Insurance Insider reported. She will be working with Mark Costin.

Heath most recently worked as a managing director and U.K. leader for the aviation and aerospace practice at Marsh JLT Specialty.

BGC Insurance Group is the insurance division of BGC Partners Inc.

Sompo International Holdings Ltd. appointed James McDonald head of its upstream energy business, The Insurance Insider reported.

McDonald was global head of marine and energy at Talbot Underwriting Ltd.

Axis Re appointed Jason Busti president of North America, based in New York, and Roman Romeo head of property for Bermuda.

Busti will oversee the North America treaty reinsurance business, including the U.S., Bermuda and Canadian markets. He worked as a managing director and client executive for the U.S. globals business at Swiss Re AG.

Axis Re is the reinsurance business segment of Axis Capital Holdings Ltd.

Willis Towers Watson PLC named Nick Vine director for client relationship management at its North American aviation division, The Insurance Insider reported.

Vine served as director of the international aviation at Lockton Inc.

EC3 Brokers Ltd. appointed Rick Inglessis an entertainment development executive, Sheryl Harta senior account handler and Caroline Taylor operations manager to its U.K. contingency and entertainment division.

Inglessis was an entertainment development executive at Doodson Broking Group Ltd. Harta served as a sports account broker, and Taylor was an entertainment operations manager at Integro Insurance Brokers Ltd.

SOBC DARAG Holdings Ltd. named Dan Linden head of its new office in Bermuda, effective Aug. 1.

The company also appointed Joel Neal executive vice president, Ryan Heyrana vice president, and Lucy Foster financial controller and captive manager.

SOBC DARAG is owned by DARAG Group Ltd. investors.
