Kroger fiscal Q3 profit climbs 25.9% YOY

Kroger Co. said its normalized net income for the fiscal third quarter ended Nov. 8 amounted to 34 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 31 cents per share.

EPS rose 33.3% year over year from 25 cents.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $332.6 million, a gain of 25.9% from $264.3 million in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin climbed to 1.3% from 1.2% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue rose 11.2% on an annual basis to $24.99 billion from $22.47 billion, and total operating expenses increased 10.9% on an annual basis to $24.34 billion from $21.94 billion.

Reported net income increased 20.9% from the prior-year period to $359.2 million, or 37 cents per share, from $297.0 million, or 28 cents per share.
