Facebook launches dating service in US

Facebook Inc. rolled out its Facebook Dating service in the U.S. for users 18 years or older.

In a Sept. 5 blog post, Nathan Sharp, product manager at Facebook Dating, said users can choose to opt in to Facebook Dating to create a profile. Users will then be linked to others who also opted in and will be allowed to search for a match via common interests, groups, events and other connections.

Users with Instagram LLC accounts can integrate their posts directly into their Dating profile. Talking about some of the privacy concerns surrounding the app, Sharp said all Dating activity will stay in Facebook Dating and not shared to the rest of Facebook. A Secret Crush feature will let people match with other people who they already know on Facebook or Instagram.

Dating also includes built-in protections, such as the ability to report and block anyone as well as to stop users from sending photos, links, payments or videos.

The service isavailable in 19 countries around the world, and is expected to launch in Europe by 2020.

The 19 countries are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay and Vietnam.
