Total U.S. nuclear plant availability turned lower early Nov. 21 to 93.13%, down from 93.75% on Nov. 20 but higher than the 92.84% reported on the same day in 2016.
Pulling down total output was the loss of NextEra Energy Inc.'s Turkey Point 3 in Florida. The plant was offline early Nov. 21 after being pegged at 100% power the day before. The reason for the outage has not been disclosed.
On the other hand, Xcel Energy Inc.'s Prairie Island 2 in Minnesota was at 22% early Nov. 21, up from 1% the day prior. The unit was recently restarted following a refueling outage that started in mid-October.
As of early Nov. 21, six nuclear reactors across the U.S. remain offline.
