The Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Securities Commission Malaysia will work together to set up a stock market trading link between Bursa Malaysia Bhd. and Singapore Exchange Ltd. by the end of the year.
With the trading link, investors will be allowed to trade and settle shares listed on each other's bourse more conveniently and at lower costs, according to a Feb. 6 release.
The trading link will also cover post-trade arrangements, including the clearing and settlement of traded stocks.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore and Securities Commission Malaysia will also set up cross-border supervisory and enforcement arrangements and work together with the two exchanges to make the link operational.
The initiative is part of efforts by the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum to deepen financial connectivity across the region's capital markets.
Bursa Malaysia resumed trading of its shares at 2:30 p.m. Malaysian time following the announcement.
