BRF SA said May 23 that it has stopped production at four of its pork and chicken slaughtering facilities in Brazil due to the shortage of raw material brought about by a truckers' strike in the country.
The facilities are located in Nova Marilândia, Dois Vizinhos, Toledo and Campos Novos.
The Brazilian packaged foods and meats producer added that six more facilities will be partially halted the same day.
BRF said the strike also affected the delivery of several production inputs used in the food industrialization process.
"The company stresses that the inability to transport inputs and products causes losses to the company, employees and farmers, as well as threatens severely the animal welfare and harms the consumers," the Itajaí-based meats producer said.
