VMware Inc. said its second-quarter normalized net income was 48 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 91 cents per share.
EPS increased 37.9% year over year from 35 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $205.0 million, an increase of 35.5% from $151.3 million in the prior-year period.
The normalized profit margin rose to 11.2% from 10.4% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue grew 9.6% on an annual basis to $1.60 billion from $1.46 billion, and total operating expenses increased from the prior-year period to $1.28 billion from $1.22 billion.
Reported net income rose year over year to $170.7 million, or 40 cents per share, from $165.0 million, or 38 cents per share.
