Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. said March 12 that all 103 drugstores it acquired from Rite Aid Corp. in West Virginia will remain part of a local health insurer's pharmacy network.
Public Employees Insurance Agency, or PEIA — a state-run insurance coverage provider to West Virginia employees and related local government institutions — manages prescription drug plans for members through a select group of pharmacies, which includes Rite Aid.
The Illinois-based pharmacy chain, which purchased 1,932 stores and related assets from Rite Aid, said PEIA agreed to continue its contract with the drugstore operator.
PEIA members will see no interruption in coverage or access as part of Rite Aid's transition into the Walgreens brand.
Also as part of the agreement, Walgreens said all 15 of its West Virginia outlets will join PEIA's network of pharmacies, effective April 1.
