The combined oil and natural gas rig count in the United States was up a single rig in the week to June 1 to 1,060, according to the latest Baker Hughes North American Rotary Rig Count.

The total count sits 144 rigs above the corresponding week a year earlier.
Oil-directed rigs were up two on the week to a total of 861, which was up 128 from the same week in 2017. Natural gas-directed rigs were down one on the week to 197 and were up 15 rigs on the year.

The North American rig count was up 19 on the week and is up 144 on the year to a total of 1,159, as Canadian rigs jumped by 18 on the week and were unchanged in the year to a total of 99.
During the week ended June 1, U.S. land rigs were up three at a total of 1,039, which was up 150 from the corresponding year-ago period. Inland water rigs were down two on the week and down two on the year at a total of two. Offshore rigs were also unchanged on the week and down four on the year at a total of 19.
By trajectory, vertical rigs were unchanged on the week and down 11 on the year to a total of 66 and horizontal rigs were up three on the week and up 158 on the year to a total of 929. Directional rigs were down two on the week at 65, which was down three on the year.
