Whole Foods supplier recalls Dorset cheese over listeria risk

Amazon.com Inc.-owned organic grocery chain Whole Foods Market Inc. is recalling Dorset cheese from select stores in the U.S. over concerns about possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

The products were manufactured by Consider Bardwell Farm, which initiated the recall. They were sold at Whole Foods stores in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.

The listeria bacteria can cause serious illness in young children, frail or elderly people, pregnant women and other people with weakened immune systems. According to the company, no illnesses have been reported to date.

The cheese products were wrapped in plastic with a Whole Foods Market scale label, with PLU code 97776 and a sell-by date of Oct. 30.
