J.H. Whitney buys restaurant chain Firebirds

Private equity firm J.H. Whitney Capital Partners LLC purchased a majority stake in Firebirds International LLC for an undisclosed sum.

The seller was privately held alternative asset manager Angelo Gordon & Co. LP.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Firebirds, which has 48 locations across the U.S., is a casual restaurant known for its wood-fired entrées. It aims to expedite its expansion across the continental U.S. through the new partnership with J.H. Whitney. Mark Eason will remain CEO of Firebirds.

NorthPoint Advisors was financial adviser to Firebirds, while Kirkland & Ellis LLP was legal adviser to J.H. Whitney.
