Hooker Furniture fiscal Q1 profit climbs 33.9% YOY

Hooker Furniture Corp. said its normalized net income for the fiscal first quarter ended May 4 came to 25 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 22 cents per share.

EPS climbed 33.8% year over year from 19 cents.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $2.7 million, an increase of 33.9% from $2.0 million in the prior-year period.

The normalized profit margin increased to 4.4% from 3.6% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue increased 9.1% on an annual basis to $61.4 million from $56.3 million, and total operating expenses climbed 7.7% on an annual basis to $57.2 million from $53.1 million.

Reported net income grew 30.2% from the prior-year period to $2.8 million, or 26 cents per share, from $2.1 million, or 20 cents per share.
