Atrum Coal Ltd. said May 31 that it has secured all the necessary regulatory approvals to start its planned drilling program at Elan South, which is part of the Elan hard coking coal project in Alberta.
Atrum has planned 20,000 meters of exploration drilling at Elan this year, with the program predominantly focused on extensional and infill drilling that will target the growth and classification upgrade of the existing indicated and inferred resource estimate of 97 million tonnes at Elan South.
The revised resource estimate that will result from the drilling is set to feed into a scoping study for the development of Elan South. Atrum expects the study to be finished by the fourth quarter.
The other major focus of Atrum's drilling at Elan is the Isolation South deposit, part of the project's northern tenements with an existing indicated resource of 39 million tonnes. The company expects to receive regulatory approvals for Isolation South in late July, with drilling to start a month later.
