U.S. President Donald Trump said there was a "substantial chance" that his highly anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would not go ahead as scheduled in Singapore.
Trump said the meeting "may not work out for June 12." He suggested that the two countries may lack sufficient time to agree on the parameters of the negotiations, although preparations were "moving along," according to CNN.
"If it doesn't happen, maybe it will happen later," Trump said, as quoted by the news outlet.
The president also said the meeting would be called off if North Korea fails to meet certain conditions, Reuters reported.
Trump cast doubts on the proposed summit amid concerns over Kim's commitment to full denuclearization. Last week, North Korea threatened to withdraw from the meeting if Washington insisted that Pyongyang abandon its nuclear weapons unilaterally.
Pyongyang also canceled high-level talks with South Korea due to the latter's ongoing joint military drills with the U.S.
Trump made his remarks as he met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House. Some U.S. officials believe that Moon may have oversold North Korea's promises and willingness to negotiate, according to the media reports.
