Colombian authorities file claim against AngloGold's Quebradona project

AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. unit Minera de Cobre Quebradona is facing an administrative claim from Colombia's Autonomous Regional Corp. Corantioquia over alleged law breaches related to the Quebradona copper-gold property, Mining.com reported Aug. 18, citing local media outlet Caracol Radio.

The report cited a document that indicated the company broke regulations in 2011 by building a mining exploration platform just 15 meters from the La Fea creek in the municipality of Jericó.

The claim does not mention any pollution caused by drilling around the creek. Quebradona has 10 business days to respond.

In February, AngloGold approved the project to proceed to a feasibility study phase after outlining a maiden ore reserve of 104.1 million tonnes at 1.21% copper and 0.66 g/t gold.
