Banco Macro approves leave for chairman, denies wrongdoing in legal case

Banco Macro SA said its board approved a leave of absence requested by Chairman Jorge Horacio Brito, noting that Vice Chairman Delfín Jorge Ezequiel Carballo will fill in for Brito until the bank's next general shareholder meeting.

Brito recently filed for the leave to preserve the company from "all attacks and accusations" levied against him in the media, with some reports alleging that he could be implicated in the Ciccone political scandal.

Commenting on an ongoing legal case involving the bank's operations between 2010 and 2012, Banco Macro said it acted in compliance with all applicable internal rules, as well as those regarding anti-money laundering.

The company added that the actions it took during the period in question "have not been subject to any observations or comment neither by the supervisory agencies nor by any judicial authority."
