All iron ore mining permits in the Indian state of Goa were canceled by the country's Supreme Court, Reuters reported Feb. 7, citing a local environmental group.
All mining in the state will stop after March 15, and the government has regained ownership of all 88 leases.
In March 2015, India's Ministry of Environment and Forest gave environmental clearance to 72 iron ore mines in Goa, issuing a formal order to lift the suspension.
Vedanta Resources Plc, which produced 800,000 dry tonnes of salable iron ore from its Goa operations in the third quarter of fiscal 2018, is the state's biggest iron ore miner.
According to the report, the Goa operations were expected to output about 5.5 million tonnes of iron ore in the full fiscal year.
